- Aug '07:  IEEE Wireless Communications climbs to Number 1 among all publications in the category of Telecommunications in the last Journal Citation Reports (JCR) from Thomson ISI (2006) based on Impact Factor. IEEE Wireless was ranked at 4th in 2004 and 2005 JCR reports. IEEE Wireless also maintains its strong position amongst journals in Computer Science, Hardware & Architecture at no. 4 and amongst all publications in the field of Electrical Engineering at no 14.

- Nov '06: Abbas receives the 2006 IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Contribution to Satellite Communications Award at IEEE Globecom2006 in San Francisco, CA.

 - Nov '06: Abbas is named  as the new IEEE Fellow class 2007 with the citation of "for contributions to next generation networks for traffic control".

 - Oct '06: Abbas receives another competitive research funding from the Australian Research Council (ARC) under Discovery Project scheme for work on cross-correlated security and service quality in heterogeneous mobile communication networks.
