Laboratory Resources

The laboratory project starts in Week 8 and continues until the end of the semester. It will be undertaken in groups of two. An overview of the laboratory project was presented in the Week 8 lecture. This section contains information for completing the laboratory project.

Schedule

The laboratory consists of five stages with each stage discussed in lectures. The project is intended as an integrated whole, but divided up into manageable, weekly stages. The following is a schedule of the tasks for each of the stages along with links to documents which covers the information discussed in lectures:

Stage Week Task Information Tutors' notes

1

8 Interface RAM and a latch to the TSK80 CPU (pdf, pdf-2up) (pdf, pdf-2up)
2 9 Interface the keypad to the CPU using interrupts (pdf, pdf-2up) (pdf, pdf-2up)
3 10 Interface the LCD display using wait states (pdf, pdf-2up) (pdf, pdf-2up)
4 11 Programmable timer with interrupts (pdf, pdf-2up) (pdf, pdf-2up)
5 12 Software to implement the stop watch (pdf, pdf-2up) (pdf, pdf-2up)

It is suggested that you do not look at the tutors' notes until you have a problem. If you get yourself into a tangled mess, (intermediate files) have been created so that you can carry on. The final week of the semester is free to complete any unfinished laboratory exercises.

Note: It is important to attend lectures to obtain detailed information for each stage of the laboratory project.

Laboratory Documentation

An overview of the laboratory project and the requirements for this project is available here:

You should work on your documentation of the laboratory project on a week by week basis rather than attempting remember what you did at the end of the semester.

As with the Tutorials, Laboratory is assessed on your demonstration that you have done the work. This includes a compliant lab book.

Note also that all and anything covered in Tutorial and Laboratory are assessable in the final examination. Your keeping of good documentation on this will help you remember and study for the final exam.
