Staff Structure
The ITU is a group within SUEIE and reports directly to the HOS or his/her nominee.
The ITU Director reports to the HOS or his/her nominee.
The Director is responsible for the IT planning function and will have the authority to call on staff for the execution of the ITU’s mission.
He/she will address the following issues:
ITU Director
- setting annual plan, priorities and budget
- strategic planning of IT needs
- professional development of IT staff
- coordination with research groups, undergraduate teaching groups and laboratories
- responsibilities of personnel
- system and network planning
- establishing standards for the preferred computing environment - choice of software, modes of operation and access to resources
- liaison with the faculty and the university
ITU Coordinator
The ITU Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day management and operation of the Department's IT infrastructure, for carrying out the policies of the ITU and for supervision of the ITU staff. He/she reports to the
ITU Staff
The ITU has a complement of full-time staff who report to the ITU Coordinator with regard to all ITU business, including staffing matters. In order to fulfil its mission, the ITU needs to interact with associated staff in the laboratories.

Departmental staff responsible for computer support in teaching or research laboratories will be associated with the ITU. They will assist in maintaining the computing equipment in their labs, ensure its operation conforms to Dept policy as set by the ITU and will liaise with the ITU Coordinator. The ITU will guide and assist the associated staff in their tasks of supporting their teaching or research computing activities. The ITU will provide those specialised skills that may be required, will set standards, provide network support and network-wide services. The associated staff will contribute specialised skills in their fields. They will collaborate with the ITU in ensuring that standards are met and that systems connected to the network conform to the requirements of the ITU, in order to ensure the functionality of the total system. At all times the ITU will foster collaboration and cooperation with associated staff.
The ITU will participate in the IT activities of the Engineering Faculty and the University, and will promote the use of Faculty facilities as appropriate for both teaching and research. It will in particular maintain a strong liaison with the Faculty IT staff, some of whom may be associated with the ITU and provide specific expertise.
