Abbas Jamalipour is a Fellow of IEEE, IEICE, and Engineers Australia, a Professional Member of ACM, and an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Nagoya University, Japan. He is the author of six technical books, eleven book chapters, and over 400 technical papers in scholarly journals and international conferences, all in the area of wireless communications. He is the Professor of Ubiquitous Mobile Networking and leads the Wireless Networking Group (WiNG) at the University of Sydney, Australia. He is one of the most cited researchers in the field of mobile, cellular, and satellite networks with over 6500 citations (h-index: 37, i10-index: 98).
He was the Editor-in-Chief IEEE Wireless Communications and currently he is an editor for several scholarly journals, including IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, and EiC for the IEEE VTS Mobile World. He was the Vice President - Conferences, IEEE Communications Society 2012-13 during which period he has made fundamental improvements to the quality and credibility of conferences sponsored financially and/or technically by ComSoc and has initiated a number of new conferences. Previously he has held positions of the Chair of the Communication Switching and Routing and the Satellite and Space Communications Technical Committees and the Vice-Director of the Asia Pacific Board, in IEEE Communications Society. He was the General Chair IEEE WCNC2010 and Program Chair of IEEE PIMRC2012, IEEE ICC2014, and ICT2015 held in Sydney, and has been a technical chair for several other IEEE ICC, GLOBECOM, WCNC and PIMRC conferences. He is the Technical Program Chair of the IEEE SmartGridComm2016 to be held in Sydney and IEEE Globecom2018 to be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Professor Jamalipour is a voting member of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society Board of Governors and the Conference Boards of the IEEE Communications Society. He is the recipient of several prestigious awards such as the 2011 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Best Paper Award, the 2010 IEEE ComSoc Harold Sobol Award for Exemplary Service to Meetings & Conferences, the 2006 IEEE ComSoc Distinguished Contribution to Satellite Communications Award, and the 2006 IEEE ComSoc Best Tutorial Paper Award.
In early 2000's, he disseminated the fundamental concepts of the next generation networks and convergence networks as well as the integration of WLAN and cellular networks; some of which have been deployed by industry and included in the ITU-T standards. He holds five international patents in the field of wireless communications. His teaching and research are in the field of wireless communications networks, next generation mobile networks, network security, and wireless distributed networks. Dr Jamalipour has multiple Visiting Professorship positions at prestigous universities across Asia and Europe.
