Selecting AC, DC or GND

1.The A.C. Position:

Pro's And Cons of the A.C. Position
Advantages Disadvantages
  • Can be used to view A.C. ripple in a D.C. signal as it allows us to focus only on the ripple itself at any magnification without the signal being moved off the display by a large D.C. offset. (e.g 7V D.C. with 20mV ripple)
  • This method distorts A.C. signals that have a low frequency. This is due to the charging and discharging of the large capacitor that is used to effect A.C. coupling. An example of this can be found by clicking here.
