As a general rule, you should always delete mail messages that are no longer needed. You should also make sure that you use the File|Empty Trash Folder command to have the messages in your Trash folder erased. Note that the File|Empty Trash Folder command can be used to empty your Trash folder at any time.

You should also periodically compress your mail file. Your MAIL folder file can become quite large as you receive new mail messages. At times, you may wish to reduce the amount of disk space consumed by your mail file. You do this by using the File|Compress This Folder command.

Not only does this reduce the size of your mail file, but it also helps to improve performance when you access your mail messages.
