Understanding your Personal Web Page

As stated in the previous lesson, after you set your default directory (using the md public_html , cd public_html , vi index.html command), you can use the EDIT INDEX.html command (or any other editor )to edit your Personal Web Page.

Documents which are to be published on the World Wide Web are written in HTML (HyperText Markup Language). Special markers, called tags, are placed in with your text to define the structure of the document. Let's start by taking a look at the HTML source of this Web Page:

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Understanding Your Personal Web Page</TITLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY>
<H1>Understanding Your Personal Web Page</H1>

<HR>

<ADDRESS>rodica@ee.usyd.edu.au;/ADDRESS>
</BODY>
</HTML>

Although HTML may look a little confusing at first, it is easy to learn.
