Introduction to the Digital
Multimeter
- Here in the First Year Lab we have two types of
Digital Multimeter, (DMM from now on) the more complex of
the two will be explained in detail here. The FLUKE DMM
is the simpler of the two will also be mentioned but in
far less detail.
- The DMM is used to make measurements of Voltage,
Current and Resistance. Both A.C. and D.C. signals can be
measured using the DMM. But it is
strongly recommended that a CRO
be used to measure A.C. signals.
- For those that feel comfortable using a DMM and
only require help with a few specific problems a
"clickable" schematic of the Oscilloscope is
shown below, so you can just "click" on the
area of the schematic that requires explanation.
- Now if you know very little about the DMM itself
then it may be best to use the menu below to learn about
the DMM from the beginning.
