Adjusting the Trace Appearance and Controls
- Here we will discuss the controls and methods of
using the controls required to manipulate the trace lines
that appear on the CRO display
representing the signal being applied to the input being
viewed. This task is neccesary to allow accurate
measurements to be taken when using the CRO.
The Trace
Intensity Control:
- This control is situated to the right hand side
of the display and merely adjusts the brightness or
intensity of the trace on the display.
 |
- The operation of this control is simply a
anti-clockwise rotation for a reduction in
intensity and a clockwise rotation for an
increase in intensity.
|
The Trace Focus
Control:
- This control is situated on the right hand side
of the display directly above the intensity control and
merely adjusts the clarity of the trace on the display.
 |
- The operation of this control is simply a
anti-clockwise rotation for a reduction in
clarity and a clockwise rotation for an increase
in clarity.
|
The Trace
Vertical Center Adjustment:
- There are two controls that adjust the vertical
position of the trace on the Display ( one control for
each input channel
). These controls are situated directly above the Volts per Division
control for their respective channels. As is expected
when the control is rotated anti-clockwise the trace
moves towards the bottom of the display while the
opposite occurs when the control is rotated clockwise.
- The vertical trace control corresponding to input
channel A does not carry out any additional function
other than that already specified.
Inverting the
Input
- While the vertical trace control corresponding to
input channel B in fact can be used in the same manner as
channel A, it also can be used to invert
the signal by "pulling the knob" towards the
front of the CRO.
The Trace
Horizontal Adjustment and Mag X5:
- The horizontal trace adjustment is located to the
right of the Time
Base Control and has two functions,
the first is the adjustment of the trace in the
horizontal direction. The second is a multiplication of
the Sweep Time per
division by a factor of five.
 |
- The trace is adjusted horizontally by
rotating the control both clockwise and
anti-clockwise. While the five times magnitude is
achieved by "pulling out" the
horizontal position control.
