Understanding the Input Terminals and Their
Uses
- Here we will discuss the two input terminals and
the specific uses for each of them. It is important to
remember that there are two specific modes in which the
terminals are used.
- The most common of these is when the CRO is used
to measure input voltages by displaying them on the CRO display.
From this point on we will address this situation as normal
operation.
- The second specific case regarding the use of the
CRO in X-Y
Mode. In this case both of the
terminals must be used at the same time.

The Vertical Input:
- If we first consider normal operation the
Horizontal or X Input is referred to as Channel B. Under
normal operation this input can be used in conjunction
with or separately to channel A. Whether Channel A, B or
both are used the selection can be done with the Mode Selector.
- On the other hand when the CRO is being used in X-Y Mode,
the input is referred to as the X or Horizontal Input and
must be used in conjunction with the Vertical or Y Input.
The Horizontal
Input:
- If we first consider normal operation the
Vertical or Y Input is referred to as Channel A. Under
normal operation this input can be used in conjunction
with or separately to channel B. Whether Channel A, B or
both are used can be selected using the Mode Selector.
- On the other hand when the CRO is being used in X-Y Mode,
the input is referred to as the Y or Vertical Input and
must be used in conjunction with the Horizontal or X
Input.
