Well...the handsome bloke in the picture is definitely not me. I am just a bit older than him. No, seriously! (chuckle) Ok...I received my PhD in 2007 and now am working as a Research Fellow at the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, the University of Sydney, Australia. I did my Master of Engineering (Research) from the same school. However despite the prospect of bright future I am currently poor and pennyless and I just hang around the lab all day wishing that lightning would hit me and I will discover something remarkable...etcetra etcetra.

Where to start...hmmm...OK. My name is M. Rubaiyat Kibria. Don't ask me what "M" stands for coz frankly I don't know. My dad didn't tell me. Believe that? I am from Bangladesh. Know where that country is?  If you don't, then you should. (Click here for info about Bangladesh). We are neighbors of India and Burma in Asia, facing the Bay of Bengal. (Click here for a map of Bangladesh in world atlas). We gave the "Royal Bengal Tiger" its name..though we have less than 50 tigers left in our jungle..(chuckle). Damn those poachers! We fought a bloody independence war for nine months against Pakistan before we secured our independence and "Bangladesh" was born. We are also the "BABES" in international cricket....the youngest test playing nation.

14/04/2008 : Today we celebrate the "Pahela Boishakh" i.e., the start of bengali new year (follows lunar calendar). As it turns out, our indian and sri lankan brothers and sisters also celebrate this occassion. Its a day for festivity...in my book its a day for eating, drinking and..eating...and more eating. We also have cultural programs including songs, dances and other events. Pretty good gathering this attracts. I guess this day sort of reinvigorates our links to the motherland.

30/11/2007 : I received my PhD certificate from the Chancellor Marie Bashir today. Trust me, its a whole new feeling of achievement. A guy approached me near Holmes building. Never seen him before. He came up to me and congratulated me on my achievement. IT FELT GOOD! I guess I have done something worth mentioning.
